Local Trout Unlimited Chapter Event, March 13
One of our partners, the National Capitol Chapter of Trout Unlimited will be hosting their annual show from 10:00 am to 5:30 pm on March 13. The show is at the Georgetown Prep School Field house off Rockville Pike RT 355 just north of the Beltway. Show Admission for those 16 and under is free. This is a great show for kids and parents interested in fishing and getting started in fishing, wiith many activities especially for them, including:

• Each family entering with children will be given a copy of Jack Dennis’s new DVD on how to start children in fishing (as long as supplies last).

• The “Getting Started in Fly-Fishing” presentation by Dusty Wissmath will demonstrate that getting started is fun and easier than you think.

• Free fly and spin casting instruction for kids offered in the Exhibit Hall (loaner rodsavailable).

• Free fly-tying instruction for kids in the Exhibit Hall (tyingequipment and materials provided)

• Try your luck and test your skills with a fly or spinning rod at the Casting Challenge (loaner rods available).

• Award-winning author and environmental teacher, Sandy Burk, will present and discuss her book about how school children in the Living Classrooms program learn about the life cycle of the American shad and help to restore them to the Potomac River;

• Trout Unlimited’s Trout in the Classroom program will display some baby trout while demonstrating how kids in regional schools learn about the life cycle of trout, hatch trout eggs in classroom aquariums and release juvenile trout fry into local streams.

• Green Kids, the popular program of the Audubon Naturalist Society and Montgomery County Public Schools will introduce its education program and fishing club for kids 7-10 years of age.

• Maryland DNR will exhibit and be available to show anyone where and how to fish in Maryland.

Many other informative environmental education and fishing organizations will also be exhibiting.
